Taylor News_January 27th
Hello there,
Can you believe another week is upon us? Wow! January is coming to an end and we are beginning so many new activities that will carry into February. Please keep reading to see what we are starting!
Reminders:
Field trip forms were due last week. If you have a form and money, please take it to the front office or send it in and we will get it there! =) The kiddos are SO excited to go to camp. We will send home more information and packing list as the dates get closer.
Saturday, February 1st- We will be hosting the Science Stem Fair/Learning Celebration at the Power STCS Campus from 9 am-12 pm. Please join us so that you can see what we are learning in class. We will have our own class booth. Stop by to play with our car tracks as we explain Newton’s Laws: Force and Motion.
What are we learning?
Reading- We are changing it up! We have started a novel study this week. The students were split into groups and will be reading a book on their level. We will be discussing the book as a group. Sometimes we will read a chapter together and other times the chapters will be read individually. I made packets that will go along with our reading to work on our understanding of the story and events that are happening (comprehension). Students are allowed to read at school or at home. If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I’ll be happy explain more.
Writing- . We will watch a story online, Can I? Please! Mom, can I have a dinosaur? After listening to the story, students will brainstorm what they would like to ask their parents for. It could be something small or something big! Then we will come up with details to support why we need to have that item/thing. We will focus on sentence structure and giving our opinion while persuading our reader why we really HAVE to have that thing. I am really excited to see what they come up with. Stay tuned…
Science- We will be focusing on force and motion through Newton’s Laws. We will be working on race car tracks and testing different hypothesis. We will be testing Hot Wheels and what will happen when we block the tracks, give them a delayed start or try racing the Hot Wheels on different types of materials like sand paper or a carpet. This is one of my favorite activities of the year, I am so excited to share this with the class!
Math- The students are working on distributive property. We are learning how to solve problems using the PEMDAS! Ask you child what PEMDAS means, they’re becoming experts. Yay!
As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks for the continued support,
Mrs. Taylor
